A prospective, new club bringing platform tennis to Michigan’s wine country.

Paddle Courts of Leelanau seeks to establish platform tennis courts at Dune Bird Winery in Leelanau County. The club is currently accepting donations and a limited number of family memberships to meet our fundraising goals.

About the Club

Current Status: Fundraising

  • Paddle Courts of Leelanau is a 501c7 social club LLC. The organization is led by a volunteer Board of Directors who are enthusiastic about establishing a platform tennis facility in Leelanau County, MI. Current board members are: Maggie Mielczarek, Craig McConnell, Jeff Keen, Pam Kelley, and Joe Campo.

  • Update: In late December 2023 we received exciting news that Paddle Courts of Leelanau (PCOL) was awarded a donated court and a $25,000 grant from the American Platform Tennis Association (APTA) - a total value of $50,000 and enormous validation by the APTA. To build upon this momentum and continue on the path of establishing two courts, we still need to raise an additional $100,000 and have 70 new Founding Members join by March 31, 2024.

In conjunction with Total Platform Tennis of Cincinnati, the Board has established a budget and development plan for two paddle courts to be located at Dune Bird Winery. The total budget for the initial phase is $195,000 (down from $250,000 thanks to APTA court) which includes the installation of two courts joined by an elevated deck, site work, permitting, etc. Future plans may include additional courts and a warming hut.

  • Our goal is to sell 200 family memberships to this private facility. Limited hours for non-members will be available to Dune Bird guests. Membership is $1250 including initiation and your first year of dues. Ongoing dues are expected to be approximately $200 to $250 per year, which will cover expenses and periodic court maintenance. Although donations are not tax-deductible, your generous contributions (in lieu of membership, or as additional support) are greatly appreciated. Significant donations of $5,000 and above will receive special membership benefits, up to lifetime free dues.
